Who Is Clara Tauson? Alex Eala’s first opponent at the 2025 US Open


Clara Tauson will be Alex Eala’s first opponent when the Filipina makes her US Open main draw debut on Sunday (New York time).

Tauson, the world No. 15, is a 22-year-old player from Denmark who stands six feet tall.

She owns three WTA titles:

  • Lyon Open (2021)
  • Luxembourg Open (2021)
  • Auckland Classic (2025)

After her Auckland Classic win earlier this year, Tauson had an impressive run at the Dubai Duty Free Championships, reaching the finals before falling to Mirra Andreeva.

Just weeks ago at the Canadian Open, Tauson reached the semifinals and defeated top players like Iga Swiatek and Madison Keys before losing to Naomi Osaka.

Tauson is coming off a Round of 32 exit at the Cincinnati Open just days ago.

Alex Eala, ranked WTA No. 70, is a 20-year-old player from the Philippines.

While she has yet to win a WTA title, Eala reached her first WTA final earlier this year at the Eastbourne Open, where she fell short against Maya Joint.

She also made her name known in the global stage with her strong showing at the Miami Open in March, where she defeated Jelena Ostapenko, Madison Keys, and Iga Swiatek before falling to Jessica Pegula in the semifinals.

This will be Eala’s first tournament since the Canadian Open, as she withdrew from the Cincinnati Open due to a shoulder injury.
