Alex Eala ousts Nicole Fossa Huergo to reach Guadalajara 125 semis

Alex Eala defeated Italy’s Nicole Fossa Huergo, 7-6(2), 6-2, in the quarterfinals of the Guadalajara 125 Open early Friday morning (Philippine time) to book a spot in the tournament’s semifinals.

The win came just hours after Eala prevailed over American Varvara Lepchenko in their Round of 16 match, which resumed earlier today. The said match was suspended Thursday due to inclement weather.

After a tight first set that went to a tiebreak, Eala managed to hold off her 30-year-old opponent en route to victory.

Eala will face American Kayla Day in the semifinals on Saturday.

In the Round of 32, Eala defeated Arianne Hartono.
