Alex Eala becomes first Filipino to win WTA 125 title
Alex Eala continued to make history as she claimed her first WTA125 title.
Eala defeated Hungary's Panna Udvardy, 1-6, 7-5, 6-3, in the finals of the Guadalajara 125 Open early Sunday morning (Philippine time).
Aisde from winning her first WTA trophy, this also marked the first time a Filipino has won a WTA 125 title.
Back in June, Eala became the first Filipino to reach a WTA final when she earned a spot in the Eastbourne Open championship match. However, she fell short as Maya Joint took the title.
More recently, Eala also made history by becoming the first Filipino to win a Grand Slam main draw match, defeating Denmark’s Clara Tauson in the opening round of the US Open.

The WTA 125 circuit, including the Guadalajara 125 Open, "offers both established WTA players and talented newcomers the ability to build their careers and progress up to the highest levels of the WTA Tour," according to the WTA website.
The higher levels of the WTA Tour are the WTA 250, WTA 500, and WTA 1000, with the numbers denoting the ranking points to be awarded to the winners of each tournament. Grand Slams, such as the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open, award 2000 ranking points.
