Alex Eala set to compete in two WTA 125 tournaments
Alexandra “Alex” Eala is set to compete in two WTA 125 tournaments in the next few weeks.
Following her quarterfinals exit from the SP Open, Eala is now set to compete in the Jingshan Tennis Open in China.
The event will run from September 22 to 28.
After that, the world no. 57 will head to Suzhou, China for the Suzhou WTA 125 which will be held from September 29 to October 5.
Eala has been writing history for Philippine sports this year as she reached the semifinals of the Miami Open in March, the finals of Eastbourne Open in June, and made her main draw debuts in Grand Slam tournaments like the French Open.
In the US Open, she became the first Filipino player to win a Grand Slam singles main draw match in the Open Era after defeating Clara Tauson of Denmark, 6-3, 2-6, 7(13)-6(11) in the first round.
Prior to her Sao Paulo stint, Eala also won her first WTA 125 title in Guadalajara.

What is a WTA 125 tournament?
According to the WTA website, the WTA 125 series, which includes both the Guadalajara 125 and the Jingshan Tennis Open, "offers both established WTA players and talented newcomers the ability to build their careers and progress up to the highest levels of the WTA Tour."
The higher tiers of the WTA Tour are the WTA 250, WTA 500, and WTA 1000 events, with the numbers indicating the ranking points awarded to the champions. At the very top are the Grand Slams, the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open, which award 2,000 ranking points to the winners.
