Alex Eala faces Lulu Sun in battle for Jingshan Tennis Open finals berth
Alexandra “Alex” Eala will look to book a spot in the finals of the Jingshan Tennis Open as she takes on Lulu Sun in the semifinals on Saturday at 12:50 p.m. in China.
Eala, the top seed in the tournament, is coming off a quarterfinal win over hometown bet Jia-Jing Lu, 6-4, 6-1.
Sun, the 24-year-old third seed from New Zealand, reached a career-high world ranking of No. 39 in September 2024. In the quarterfinals, she defeated Elena Pridankina, 6-2, 6-4.
Eala and Sun also met in the Wimbledon qualifiers last year where the latter prevailed, 7(3)-6, 7-5.
Should Eala advance, it will mark her third finals appearance of the year after reaching the championship matches at the Eastbourne Open in June and the Guadalajara 125 earlier this month. It would also be her second career WTA 125 final.
As semifinalists, both Eala and Sun are already guaranteed 49 ranking points and $7,960 in prize money, according to a WTA document.
