Pencak Silat’s Kram Airam Carpio wins gold at Asian Youth Games

Pencak silat athlete Kram Airam Carpio captured the Philippines’ first gold medal at the 3rd Asian Youth Games in Bahrain last Monday.

The 16-year-old Carpio defeated Qiken Dwi Tata Olifia of Indonesia, 33-19, in the gold medal match of the girls’ 51-55kg division.

While Carpio admitted she believed she had a chance to win, she stayed focused to secure the victory.

“It has always been my dream to compete for the Philippines, and I will work harder to perform even better in future events,” said Carpio.

Carpio joins 2013 gold medalists Pauline Lopez (taekwondo) and Mia Legaspi (golf) on the list of Filipino champions at the Asian Youth Games.

The Philippines sent a 141-strong delegation to this year’s Asian Youth Games.
