Alex Eala reaches new career-high ranking of No. 31

Alexandra “Alex” Eala has achieved a new career-high ranking of No. 31 following her quarterfinals run at the Dubai Tennis Championships.

The Women's Tennis Association released the updated rankings on Monday.

Eala climbed 16 spots from her previous ranking of No. 47 last week. Before that, she reached a then-career-high No. 40 after another quarterfinal finish at the Abu Dhabi Open.

In Dubai, Eala earned 215 ranking points for her quarterfinal appearance, boosting her position in the rankings.

She advanced to the second round of the WTA 1000 event after Hailey Baptiste retired from their match due to an abdominal injury.

In the Round of 32, Eala pulled off an upset over world No. 8 Jasmine Paolini, then defeated another higher-ranked opponent, Sorana Cîrstea, who was ranked No. 32 at the time.

Eala’s campaign ended in the quarterfinals against world No. 4 Coco Gauff, falling 0-6, 2-6.

She will next head to the United States for the Sunshine Swing, where she is set to compete in the Indian Wells Open and the Miami Open.
