Who is Karolina Muchova? Alex Eala's Round of 16 foe at Miami Open

Filipina star Alex Eala seeks to advance further in her Miami Open run as she takes on Karolina Muchova in the Round of 16 slated for 11 p.m. on Monday (Manila time).

The 20-year-old Eala will face the seasoned Czech star, who is currently ranked No. 14 globally and reached as high as No. 8 in her career in 2023 as both players meet on the court for the first time.

It's expected to be a challenging game for the Philippine pride.

Muchova is a seasoned tennis player who reached multiple semifinals rounds in various Grand Slam events, including back-to-back Top 4 appearances in the 2023 and 2024 editions of the US Open. In 2023, Muchova made it to the French Open finals, but lost to Iga Swiatek in three sets. 

Muchova has claimed two WTA singles titles, triumphing at the 2019 Korea Open and, most recently, the Qatar Open.

At the Qatar Open, Eala and Muchova were set for a potential clash, but the Filipina star was ousted in the Round of 64 by Tereza Valentova, ending her run early. Had she prevailed, she would have faced Muchova in the following round.

They will now go head-to-head for the first time with Eala carrying the momentum from her two-set win over Magda Linette in the Round of 32 and a comeback win against Laura Siegemund in the Round of 64.
