Alex Eala falls to Karolina Muchova as Filipina star exits Miami Open in Round of 16
Alex Eala’s campaign at the 2026 Miami Open came to an abrupt end as the Filipina standout was overwhelmed by higher-seeded Karolina Muchova, 6-0, 6-2, in their Round of 16 clash late Monday (Manila time).
The lopsided defeat marked the exit for the 20-year-old Eala from the same tournament that fueled her breakthrough last year, when she stunned several Top 10 players en route to a semifinal finish.

Muchova, currently ranked world No. 14 and seeded 13th in the tournament, asserted her dominance from the get-go, capitalizing on Alex Eala’s early struggles as the Filipina committed six unforced errors in a quick 22-minute opening set.
Muchova, who recently won the Qatar Open for her second singles title, quickly built a 2-0 lead in Set 2 before Eala threatened to respond in the third game after gaining the advantage. However, back-to-back errors from the Filipina handed the momentum back, as Muchova seized control and sealed the game with a powerful forehand to extend her lead to 3-0.
Muchova dominated Eala in the next game, but the Filipina standout won two of the next three games to stay in contention.
Serving for the match, Muchova took the first three points to clinch the match point but Eala swung for two consecutive points to stage another comeback. Muchova, though, responded emphatically in the next sequence, firing a smash to seal the victory and advance to the quarterfinals.
Eala reached the Round of 16 with victories over Laura Siegemund in the Round of 64 and Magda Linette in the Round of 32.
