Alex Eala faces Xinyu Wang anew in Italian Open Round of 64

Alexandra “Alex” Eala will face a familiar foe in China’s Xinyu Wang when they meet in the Round of 64 at the Italian Open.

Eala is coming off a 6-0, 3-6, 6-4 victory over Poland’s Magdalena Frech in the opening round of the WTA 1000 tournament on Wednesday.

Wang, meanwhile, received a bye and advanced directly to the second round.

The 24-year-old Chinese player is currently ranked No. 33 in the WTA rankings and reached a career-high No. 30 in February.

Eala and Wang previously met in the semifinals of the ASB Classic earlier this year, where Wang defeated the Filipina, 5-7, 7-5, 6-4.
