Alex Eala to face world No. 2 Elena Rybakina in Italian Open Round of 32

Alexandra "Alex" Eala will face a formidable foe in world No. 2 Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan when they square off in the third round of the Italian Open.

Eala is coming off a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Wang Xinyu of China in the second round of the WTA 1000 clay tournament.

The 26-year-old Rybakina, who earned a first-round bye, defeated Greece’s Maria Sakkari, 6-4, 6-1, in the Round of 64.

This will be the first meeting between the two players.

Rybakina won the Australian Open earlier this year and the Wimbledon Championships in 2022. She also defeated Aryna Sabalenka in last year’s WTA Finals.
