Alex Eala described by Maria Sharapova as 'a star' after Wimbledon win over Iga Swiatek

Alexandra Eala was praised by tennis icon Maria Sharapova, who described her as “a star” after the Filipina defeated Iga Swiatek in the Wimbledon Round of 32.

Eala dethroned Swiatek, 7-6(9), 6-2, in the third round of the grass-court Grand Slam.

“A star,” Sharapova wrote in the comment section of Wimbledon’s post showing Eala’s winning moment.

As a child, Eala once had a moment with Sharapova, as reported by State of the Nation in December 2015.

Now, Eala is writing her own chapter in tennis history as she becomes the first Filipina to reach this stage of the tournament.

Eala will next face Jasmine Paolini in the Round of 16.
