From making history at Wimbledon to scaling new heights in the world rankings, Filipina star Alex Eala continues to rewrite Philippine tennis history after rising to a career-high world No. 28 in the latest WTA rankings on Monday.

Eala climbed four spots from No. 32 while also surpassing her previous best of No. 29, which she first achieved in March this year following a Round of 16 appearance at the WTA1000 Indian Wells Open.

Eala's new ranking followed another Round of 16 appearance, this time at the prestigious Wimbledon stage, where the 21-year-old ace defeated several heavyweight opponents.

She opened her run with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Mexican Renata Zarazua in the first round before securing a 3-6, 6-2, 6-0 comeback win against Maya Joint, who dealt her a heartbreaking finals loss in the 2025 Eastbourne Open.

Eala's story didn't stop there. She pulled off arguably the biggest win of her young career by dethroning Iga Swiatek in the Round of 32 with a stunning 7-6(9), 6-2 win to set up a rematch with Jasmine Paolini in the Round of 16.

Eala put up a brave stand against the Italian star, but the Filipina could not repeat her magic over Paolini, whom she had beaten in the Dubai Tennis Championships Round of 32 last February.

Eala's new ranking also comes before she swings back to the hard courts for tournaments including the WTA 500 Mubadala DC Open, the Canadian Open, and the US Open.

Eala has also flown back to the Philippines for her homecoming, where she is set to attend several media and fan meet events.
