UAAP: La Salle goes past Ateneo


After losses to NU and Adamson, the DLSU Lady Spikers recovered in style, serving a 25-20, 25-27, 24-26, 25-20 victory against arch rivals Ateneo in the elimination round of the UAAP Women’s Volleyball tournament.

Kim Dy was all over the place for La Salle, scoring 21 points off 11 kills, seven blocks, and three aces. Tin Tiamzon added 13, while Des Cheng tallied 11, including seven aces. Majoy Baron and Duke Agunsanya rounded up the scorers in double figures with 10 each.

Ateneo also relied on their balanced scoring, with four players tallying double digits. Maraguinot led the squad with 13 points, while Kat Tolentino added 12. Bea De Leon and Maddie Madayang chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The two teams were virtually tied in attack points, 44-40, and in blocks, 12-11, in favor of La Salle, but the defending champions edged the Katipunan-based squad in service aces, 16-4.

With the win, La Salle improved to 5-2 to tie FEU atop the standings. Ateneo, meanwhile, snapped its four-game winning streak to slide down to 4-3 just behind NU (5-1). — LA, GMA News
