Molde's 24 lifts UP past UE for first win
Isa Molde carried the University of the Philippines past the University of the East to barge into the win column, 25-23, 25-20, 18-25, 25-17, Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Molde registered nine of her total 24 points in the fourth set, three of which were essential in the Diliman-based squad's 8-0 run to give their biggest lead against UE, 13-3, and eventually their first win.
"I think on the fourth set we started playing our normal volleyball," UP head coach Godfrey Okumu told reporters in the post-game conference. "Usually the most aggressive team wins and that worked for us today," he added.
Mean Mendrez made 21 points for UE in the losing affair.
Meanwhile, in the men's division, Lloyd Josafat lifted the University of the East to a four-set victory against the University of the Philippines, 25-11, 23-25, 25-20, 28-26.
Josafat registered 32 points on 28 attack points and credited his teammates for his high-scoring performance. "Siguro kung hindi rin dahil sa teammates ko, hindi ko mame-meet 'yung 32 points," he said.
John Lomibao led UP with 18 points.
Both the UE and UP men’s teams hold a 1-1 record, while the UE Lady Warriors are at 0-2.
The UE teams will face Ateneo on Wednesday, while UP will see action on Tuesday against La Salle. — DVM, GMA News
