Alyssa Valdez, players celebrate 'historic day' in Philippine volleyball as teams unite in one league

Philippine volleyball players rejoiced on Thursday as teams finally united in one professional league.

F2 Logistics Cargo Movers, previously from the Philippine Super Liga (PSL), announced on Thursday that they are heading to the Premier Volleyball League (PVL).

The PSL allowed the movement of their clubs to the PVL for team exposure and for the players to be given more opportunities amid the coronavirus pandemic.

"May this new partnership be fruitful not just for the league, but moreover to Philippine volleyball," F2 said in a statement.

Other teams that jumped ship from PSL include PLDT, Cignal, Sta. Lucia, and Cherry Tigo, making the PVL a 12-team league.

The rest of the teams include Army, Bali Pure, Choco Mucho, Creamline, Perlas, PetroGazz, and UAC.

Alyssa Valdez and other players welcomed the development as a step forward for the sport in the country.

"Magkakalaban pero magkasama sa iisang liga. Historic day for Philippine volleyball," Valdez said in a tweet.

("Opponents but together on the same league. Historic day for Philippine volleyball.")

F2 Logistics team captain Aby Maraño could not contain her excitement even as she also thanked the PSL for being her home for seven years.

"Kagulo ang social media world," she tweeted. "Ang saya ng volleyball! Let's go loves!"

("Social media world went wild! Volleyball is such a joy! Let's go loves!")

Men's national team stalwart Marck Espejo also expressed his happiness for the volleyball circuit.

"Mabuhay ang Philippine Volleyball. Ito na ang simula," he tweeted.

("Long live Philippine Volleyball. This is the start.")
