Rondina, Pons, SEA Games medalists lead beach volleyball tryouts attendees


The tandem of Sisi Rondina and Bernadeth Pons is back on the sands as the pair attended the women's volleyball national team tryouts organized by the Philippine National Volleyball Federation on Friday in Subic, Zambales.

The 2019 Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) bronze medalists, including Dzi Gervacio and Dij Rodriguez, were among the 21 who participated in the team exercises.

According to the PNVF, other participants for the tryouts include Jovelyn Gonzaga, Alexa Polidario, Erjane Magdato, Babylove Barbon, Princess Robles, Honey Grace Cabansay, Jennifer Cosas, Tin Tiamzon, Javen Sabas, Gen Eslapor and Mer Jauculan.

Others like Roma Mae Doromal, Grydelle Joanice Matibag, Khylem Harl Progella and Samantha Maranan attended for the juniors tryouts.

A total of 21 athletes also attended the tryouts for the men's team, led by SEAG bronze medalists Jude Garcia, Jaron Requinton and James Buytrago.

Anthony Arbasto, Edwin Tolentino, Ranran Abdilla, Ronald Umang-it, Joven Camaganakan, AJ Pareja, Jade Becaldo, Calvin Sarte, James Pecaña, Jason Uy, Philip Bagalay and Joshua Miña also tried out for the men's team.

Attendees for the juniors tryouts include Pol Salvador, Rancel Varga, Dominique Gabito, Efraem Dimaculangan, Jay Rack Dela Noche and Alexander Iraya.

A total of 89 players from all categories attended the PNVF tryouts.

“This goes to show that volleyball—and sports in general, for that matter—is eager to make a comeback amid the pandemic,” PNVF president Tats Suzara said in a statement. “ We completed three days of tryouts and the turnout of aspirants breached expectations.”

The tryouts are held to choose who will be part of the national team that will compete in the 2021 SEAG in Hanoi, Vietnam. —Justin Kenneth Carandang/JMB, GMA News
