PVL tweaks calendar ahead of playoffs due to stricter COVID-19 measures

The Premier Volleyball League (PVL) is set to wrap up its inaugural professional season as soon as possible following the request of governor Matthew Manotoc of Ilocos Norte, where the games are being held.

PVL commissioner Tonyboy Liao said Manotoc had asked the league to finish the season before the northern province implements stricter quarantine restrictions in the whole province.

"Gov. (Matthew) Manotoc was being asked why the PVL in Bacarra was not under MECQ (Moderate Enhanced Community Quarantine) while the whole of Ilocos Norte is declared," said Liao in a statement.

"So he requested Ricky (Palou) if we can finish right away so there won't be anymore problems," Liao said.

With the adjusted calendar, the league will now have a packed schedule the rest of the conference.

The elimination round is now tipped to be concluded on Saturday, August 7, instead of August 9, while the semifinals will now kick off on Sunday, August 8, instead of August 11.

This would also mean that PVL will hold three games each day starting Thursday until Saturday.

The semifinals series is a best-of-three affair and if both series finish via sweep, the finals, another best-of-three duel, will be held the next day.
