PNVF to heed AVC proposal to postpone Asian Seniors Women's Volleyball Championship to 2022

The Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF), in accordance to the proposal made by the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC), is set to push back its hosting of the 21st Asian Senior Women's Volleyball Championship due to the resurgence of COVID-19 in the country.

The continental showpiece, which serves as a qualifier for the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship, was originally scheduled to take place in Pampanga from August 29 until September 5.

Initially, the PNVF suggested moving it to October of this year but it would not match the calendar of the International Volleyball Federation.

It will now likely be held from May 15 to 22, 2022 as stated by AVC President Rita Subowo in the confederation’s letter to PNVF President Ramon "Tats" Suzara on Wednesday.

The national team is currently led by Brazilian mentor in Jorge Edson Souza de Brito, who is working closely with Filipino coach Odjie Mamon.

The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) had already granted PNVF's quota of 20 athletes for each of the men and women volleyball teams and eight players for each of the men and women beach volleyball squads.

With the Asian Seniors' postponement, though, it will be a packed 2022 for the nationals as the Vietnam Southeast Asian (SEA) Games had already been deferred to next year.
