JAPAN V.LEAGUE

Espejo’s FC Tokyo completes two-game sweep of Bagunas’ Oita Miyoshi

In the first-ever face-off between Filipino volleyball players on the international stage, Marck Espejo will remain spotless for now.

The former Ateneo standout helped steer FC Tokyo to yet another quick victory over his fellow Filipino Bryan Bagunas and Oita Miyoshi Weisse Adler, 25-18, 25-20, 25-23, in the 2021 Japan V. League on Saturday.

FC Tokyo forged its second consecutive win, following a six-game losing skid to start the season, as they now improve to a 2-6 card. Bagunas’ Oita Miyoshi, meanwhile, could not arrest their slide as they dropped to 1-7.

Espejo, a national team mainstay, notched 11 points built on 7 attacks, three blocks, and a service ace in their 25-17, 25-18, 25-22 breakthrough win over Oita Miyoshi on Friday.

FC Tokyo returns to action on Friday, November 12, against JT Hiroshima while Oita Miyoshi will try to salvage its season with a match against JTEKT Stings on November 20.
