Marck Espejo's Japanese club to cease operations in May 2022


Marck Espejo's club in the Japan V. League, FC Tokyo, announced that it is ceasing its operations in May 2022.

In a statement Wednesday, the Japanese club thanked everyone who supported them through the years.

FC Tokyo also said it will also suspend dissemination activities such as volleyball classes.

"This team started its activities in 2003 with the predecessor of the Tokyo Gas Volleyball Club," the statement read.

"However, as a result of comprehensive consideration of changes in the surrounding business environment, the possibility of medium- to long-term business growth, and measures for commercialization and sophistication plans for the future of V League, it has decided to suspend activities."

Bannered by the Filipino import along with middle blocker Hideyuki Kuriyama, FC Tokyo currently ranks eighth in the ongoing 2021 season with a 4-10 win-loss card.

Both Espejo and Kuriyama have been selected to play in the Japan V. League All-Star festivities slated for December 25.

FC Tokyo finished as runner-up in the 2011 Emperor's Cup and has been active in the top volleyball league in Japan.
