NU cruises to 4th win in a row; Ateneo picks up 1st win in women's volleyball


National University made quick work of hapless University of the East, 25-11, 25-20, 25-13, to cruise to its fourth consecutive win in the UAAP Season 84 women's volleyball tournament on Thursday.

The Lady Bulldogs remained as the only unscathed team with a clean 4-0 card as head coach Karl Dimaculangan edged his brother Ronwald Dimaculangan, who is at the helm of the Lady Warriors.

Sheena Toring carried the cudgels for NU, finishing with 13 points while Ivy Lacsina and Michaela Belen chipped in 13 and 11 markers, respectively. Belen, a former national team member, added 11 digs and eight receptions in the cause.

Meanwhile, Ateneo de Manila University finally barged into the win column following three early losses with a straight sets victory over Far Eastern University, 25-16, 25-14, 25-14. Faith Nisperos shone with 14 points on 11 attacks, two aces, and a block.

University of Santo Tomas and Adamson University outhustled their respective opponents to pick up wins.

Veteran open spiker Eya Laure led UST rally to hand De La Salle University its second loss in a row with an epic five-set victory, 26-24, 22-25, 25-27, 25-23, 15-12. Laure finished with 28 points, including the last three crucial points for UST as they improved to 3-1.

Adamson, meanwhile, drew a four-set win over erstwhile undefeated University of the Philippines, 25-19, 19-25, 25-17, 25-11, as the Lady Falcons went 2-2 while UP dropped to 3-1.
