NU completes elims sweep for outright finals berth; Adamson, Ateneo to battle in knockout playoff

National University completed a rare sweep of the elimination round after trouncing University of Santo Tomas in straight sets, 25-20, 29-27, 25-17, in the UAAP Season 84 women's volleyball tournament on Thursday.

The feat gave the Lady Bulldogs an outright finals spot. UST, meanwhile, is already assured of a Final Four seat despite the loss due to its 9-5 record.

Four NU players produced double-digit scoring but Princess Robles proved to be unstoppable with her team-high 13 points while rookie Michaela Belen and Alyssa Solom chipped in 12 markers each.

Belen added 11 digs and 21 excellent receptions to her impressive stat line as NU finished with a clean 14-0 slate.

Meanwhile, both Adamson University and Ateneo de Manila University kept their hopes alive after dispatching separate foes.

Adamson escaped De La Salle University, 25-23, 17-25, 25-16, 26-24, to forge a two-way tie with Ateneo, who drew a 19-25, 25-11, 25-18, 25-19 victory over University of the Philippines.

Both Adamson and Ateneo are at fourth spot with identical 8-6 cards, prompting a knockout playoff between the two schools to determine who will get the last Final Four spot.

Earlier, University of the East stunned Far Eastern University, 25-22, 22-25, 25-21, 25-21, to book its first win of the season.
