Molina shines as Cignal escapes Army; Choco Mucho sweeps undermanned Chery Tiggo
Ces Molina took care of business to steer Cignal HD Spikers to a 25-17, 21-25, 25-20, 25-20 victory against Army Black Mamba to open the 2022 PVL Invitational Conference on Saturday.
The grizzled open hitter poured in 20 points anchored on 16 attacks and four blocks to go along with 14 digs as the HD Spikers went 1-0 early in the shortened tournament.
Team captain Rachel Anne Daquis chipped in 10 markers while middle blocker Roselyn Doria also added 10 points.
Jovelyn Gonzaga, who is making a return to indoor volleyball after spending months in beach volleyball, led Army with 13 points, 22 digs, and five excellent receptions.
Meanwhile, Choco Mucho took advantage of a depleted Chery Tiggo side with a 25-21, 25-21, 25-23 sweep win to jumpstart its bid in the tournament.
Kat Tolentino delivered the game-winning attack to lead the Flying Titans against the Crossovers, who played sans Jaja Santiago and her sister Dindin Santiago-Manabat.
Tolentino finished with a whopping 22 points while Isa Molde had a nine-point outing.
