NU core leads 14-man lineup for AVC Cup for Women


Twelve players from National University and two others will compose the 14-man national team lineup for the 2022 Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Cup for Women set from Aug. 21 at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

Lady Bulldogs Ivy Lacsina, Mhicaela Belen, Shaira Jardio, Evangeline Alinsug, Cess Robles, Sheena Toring, Jen Nierva, Nicole Mata, Alyssa Solomon, Camilla Lamina, Kamille Cal, and Joyme Cagande will banner the squad alongside Jelai Gajero of California Precision Sports and Trisha Genesis of Akari.

The Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) announced the roster on Saturday, just hours after the PVL said the national team will take over the spot left by Kobe Shinwa Women's University in the Invitational Conference semifinals.

Brazilian Jorge Edson Souza de Brito and assistant coaches Karl Dimaculangan and Cherry Macatangay will lead the coaching staff with trainer Jerome Guhit and physical therapist Grace Gomez.

The preliminaries are set from Aug. 21-25 with the Philippines facing Vietnam on Aug. 21, China on Aug. 23, Iran on Aug. 24, and South Korea on Aug. 25.

The top five teams from each pool will advance to the knockout quarterfinals set on Aug. 27 with the semifinals slated for Aug. 28 and the qualification matches and finals on Aug. 29. – RC, GMA News
