Alyssa Valdez leads 14-woman Philippine team for AVC Cup


Alyssa Valdez is set to don the national colors anew as the high-flying open spiker will lead the 14-woman team for the AVC Cup for Women set to be held in the country next week.

Valdez will join the core of her mother club Creamline as Tots Carlos, Jema Galanza, Jeanette Panaga, Jia de Guzman, Ced Domingo, and Kyla Atienza have been included in the team as well just days after they ruled the 2022 PVL invitational Conference last Sunday.

Completing the roster are other key Cool Smashers Risa Sato, Michele Gumabao, Ella de Jesus, Pau Soriano, Kyle Negrito, Fille Cayetano, and Rose Vargas.

Cremaline head coach Sherwin Meneses remains at the helm while Karlo Santos and Bok Morado will serve as his deputies, with strength and conditioning coach Mark Caron.

The team resumed training on Wednesday at the PhilSports Arena.

The Philippines will open its campaign on Sunday against Vietnam before taking on China on Tuesday and Iran on Wednesday. It will wrap up the preliminary round on Thursday against South Korea. — LA, GMA News
