Alyssa Valdez named Philippines' flag bearer for Cambodia SEA Games
Alyssa Valdez has been designated as Team Philippines’ flag bearer for the opening ceremonies of the 32nd Southeast Asian Games set on May 5 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
The Philippine women’s volleyball team captain will lead a female delegation in the parade of nations to be held at the Morodok Techo Stadium.
For Philippine Olympic Committee (POC), Valdez is the best choice for the bearer.
“Alyssa best fits our goal of an almost all-female delegation in the opening ceremony,” said POC chief Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino in a statement.
“She’s not only the face of Philippine volleyball, but Philippine sports as well.”
This is Valdez’ second stint as the flag bearer in the biennial meet as she was also handed the task back in the 2015 SEA Games in Singapore.
The former Ateneo high-flyer said it’s an honor to carry the country’s colors once more.
“It’s such an honor to be the flag bearer for this year’s SEA games. It’s a big responsibility but I’m grateful for the trust given to me once again,” said Valdez.
“I share this with all the women in sports who brought honor and glory to the country.”
The Filipina spikers will face Vietnam, Singapore and Cambodia in Group B of the elimination round.
