Cignal, F2 Logistics repel Petro Gazz, Farm Fresh in PVL Invitational opener

Cignal recovered from a first set hiccup to pull off an 18-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-22 triumph against Petro Gazz in the 2023 PVL Invitational Conference opener on Tuesday at the FilOil EcoOil Centre.

Down three points in the pivotal fourth set, the HD Spikers unleashed three straight points capped by a combination play from veteran Rachel Anne Daquis to tie things up at 16-all.

Middle blocker Ria Meneses then went for a quick hammer for the lead, but the Angels continued to put up a fight with Grethcel Soltones knotting the match at 18-all.

Chin Basas sent Cignal to the match point before a miscommunication on Petro Gazz’ side gave the HD Spikers the victory.

In the first game, F2 Logistics gave league newcomer Farm Fresh a rude welcome as the Cargo Movers swept the Foxies, 25-22, 25-20, 25-23.

Ivy Lacsina, who shifted positions from middle blocker to open spiker, led F2 as she churned out 13 points while Aby Maraño and Kim Dy added 10 and nine markers apiece.
