Ateneo taps Sergio Veloso, replaces Oliver Almadro as women's volleyball head coach

Ateneo de Manila University has tapped Sergio Veloso as the new head coach of the women's volleyball team as the Blue Eagles look to regain its Final Four status in the UAAP Season 86.

The school made the announcement on Monday as Veloso will replace tactician Oliver Almadro, who has been at the helm since 2018 when he took the post left by Tai Bundit.

Veloso is also the head coach of the Philippine men's volleyball team, which recently participated in the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia.

He will inherit an Ateneo team that failed to reach the Final Four in the previous season, ending the elimination at sixth spot with a 4-10 win-loss card.

"Coach Sergio takes over the head coach role for the Women’s Volleyball Team and brings with him more than 37 years of successfully forming programs and coaching young and professional volleyball players in Brazil, Maldives, and Bahrain," the school said in a statement.

"His championship experience as well as expertise in technical skills analysis and strategic planning will help the team prepare for their upcoming tournaments. Coach Sergio is also currently the Philippine National Men’s Volleyball Team Head Coach."

Almadro, who steered the Blue Eagles to Season 81 championship, remains as the head coach for Petro Gazz in the ongoing 2023 PVL Invitational Conference.
