Wildredo Leon stars as world no. 1 Poland defeats Brazil in VNL 2023

Wilfredo Leon starred anew as the world’s top-ranked team Poland pulled off a 25-23, 22-25, 25-21, 25-21 win against Brazil in the Men’s Volleyball Nations League (VNL) 2023 on Friday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Leon dropped 22 points anchored on 20 attacks, one block, and one service ace as Poland improved to 8-2 in Week 3.

Brazil, meanwhile, slipped to 7-4.

Leon’s back-to-back kills brought Poland to a 16-11 cushion before an attack from him gave his side another five-point lead at 22-17.

Leon, who in 2021 set a record of fastest serve at 135.6 kilometers per hour, then delivered the match point to deny Brazil a comeback.

Bartosz Bednorz and team captain Bartosz Kurek chipped in 11 and 10 markers apiece.

Poland will next take on Canada on Saturday while Brazil will face China on the same day.
