Alyssa Solomon named SEA VLeague Thailand leg best opposite spiker
Despite a winless campaign, the Philippines won't come home empty-handed as young high-flyer Alyssa Solomon claimed the best opposite spiker award in the second leg of the 2023 Southeast Asia VLeague on Sunday in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
Solomon and the rest of the youth-laden national women's volleyball team ended the second leg with a 0-3 win-loss card, falling to host Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia.
Chatchu-on Moksri of powerhouse Thailand bagged the MVP plum while Vi Thi Nhur Quynh of Vietnam and Ratri Wulandari of Indonesia were hailed the best outside spikers. Indonesia's Arneta Putri Amelian copped the best setter plum as Piyanut Pannoy was recognized as the best libero.
Jarasporn Bundasak of Thailand and Doan Thi Xuan of Vietnam, meanwhile, took home the best middle blocker awards.
Solomon is the second opposite spiker from the Philippine to take home the award as Steven Rotter bagged the honor in the first and second legs of the men's division last month.
