Choco Mucho bounces back, sweeps Australia for second VTV Cup win
Philippine bet Choco Mucho made quick work of Australia with a clean 25-15, 25-23, 25-10 sweep to recover from a previous loss in the VTV International Women's Volleyball Cup on Monday in Vietnam.
The Flying Titans, who fell to Vietnam 1 on Sunday, improved to 2-1 while Australia remained winless at 0-3.
After a convincing opening set victory, Choco Mucho received an improved fight from the side of the Australians, whose three straight points knotted the game at 16-all in the second set.
Sisi Rondina then soared from the pipe to make it a 19-17 cushion before her own block sent Choco Mucho to the set point, 24-22.
A one-two play saved one set point for Australia, but Rondina unleashed an off-speed attack again from the back to bring Choco Mucho on the cusp of the victory despite a tight second set.
It was a different story in the third frame, which the wards of head coach Dante Alinsunurin uncorked with a scorching 13-2 run. Middle blocker Maddie Madayag won a joust at the net to make it an 15-2 spread as Maika Ortiz completed a running kill, 18-5.
An attack error from Australia gave the Filipinas the match point at 24-10 before Bea De Leon took advantage of an overpass to deliver the winning point.
Choco Mucho will look to continue this momentum on Tuesday when it takes on Vietnam 2 and on Wednesday against South Korea's Suwon City.
They will need to finish within the top four teams to advance to the semifinals.
