Cignal overcomes Benilde in five-setter, sets up finals clash vs Petro Gazz

The Cignal HD Spikers survived De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, 23-25, 22-25, 25-22, 25-22, 15-10, on Friday in the semifinals of the PNVF Champions League at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.

Cignal had a 7-0 start in the deciding set to clinch the win and book a slot in the finals on Saturday.

For Cignal head coach Shaq delos Santos, maturity became a factor in the game.

“I think it's our maturity. Experience-wise, lamang kami (we had the advantage),” Delos Santos said. 

"Again, ‘yung tiwala lang siguro sa team na hindi ko pwedeng tanggalin. Never mawawala ‘yung tiwala ko sa kanila.” 

(Again, I trust my team. That won't go away.)

Glaudine Troncoso paced Cignal with 15 points, while Ces Molina added 13 points.

Gayle Pascual had 18 points, while Zam Nolasco had 11 points for the Lady Blazers.

Meanwhile, the Petro Gazz Angels swept the Chery Tiggo Crossovers, 25-21, 25-19, 25-14, to set up a finals duel against Cignal.

Benilde and Chery Tiggo will play for the bronze medal, while the gold medal match between Cignal and Petro Gazz will be played on Saturday.
