Adamson dethrones NU to capture its first-ever UAAP girls' volleyball title
Adamson University made history again as it dethroned reigning two-time champion National University Nazareth School Lady Bullpups, 25-18, 25-18, 28-26, to rule the UAAP Season 86 girls volleyball tournament on Monday.
The Baby Falcons delivered the school's first-ever girls volleyball title to cap off a stunning season that saw them sweep the tournament. The victory came just a day after the Adamson boys basketball team defeated NUNS to end the school's 31-year title drought.
Rising star Shaina Nitura shone for Adamson, capping her high school career as the Season and Finals MVP.
With Nitura leading the way, Adamson was able to finish the elimination round with a clean 12-0 win-loss record to clinch an outright finals berth. NUNS, meanwhile, had to go through a stepladder, beating FEU and UST to arrange a finals duel with the Lady Baby Falcons.
But the defending champions could not solve Adamson, which also won Game 1 last Thursday with a dominant 25-23, 25-20, 28-26 victory.
The graduating Nitura left a message for her teammates who will continue on for Adamson next season.
"Wala man kami next year kasi may ipi-face na bagong challenge sa inyo si Lord na you have to step up on your own without the people who helped you before. You have to step out of your comfort zone para mag-bloom kayo at lumabas kayo lalo," she said.
[Even if we're no longer there next year, you will face a new challenge from the Lord that you have to step up on your own without the people who helped you before. You have to step out of your comfort zone so you can bloom and you can show your skills even more.]
