PVL: Surging Creamline, undermanned Cignal sweep Capital1, Galeries to resume their campaigns

PVL: Creamline Cool Smashers huddle

Streaking Creamline and short-handed Cignal dominated their respective foes as they resumed their campaign in the PVL All-Filipino Conference on Tuesday at the PhilSports Arena.

The defending champions Cool Smashers didn't show any sign of rust after a lengthy holiday break, sweeping Capital1 with a 25-19, 25-19, 25-18 victory over Capital1 behind a balanced scoring.

Jema Galanza led the charge on both ends with 12 point anchored on 10 attacks and two service aces while also grabbing 10 digs and five receptions as they extended their winning streak to five to remain as the only undefeated team in the tournament.

Tots Carlos, who made her conference debut after missing the past games due to a knee injury, finished with 10 markers as Bea De Leon and Alyssa Valdez chipped in eight and seven points apiece.

"Thankful ako sa mga players and sa nagbabalik na player kasi mas naging healthy 'yung team namin lalo na at mahaba 'yung conference," Creamline coach Sherwin Meneses said.

"Kailangan tulong-tulong talaga sa paglalaro. Happy ako na nakabalik na sila, ayun 'yung number one."

[Thankful to the players and to the player who came back because we are now a healthier team especially as this is a long conference. We need to help each other when playing. I'm happy they're all back, that's number one.]

In the first game, Cignal, which was playing for the first time since the exodus of several key players, pulled off a convincing 25-17, 25-20, 25-19 triumph over Galeries.

Vanie Gandler took the scoring cudgels and delivered a 17-point outing in the sweep while middle blockers Roselyn Doria and Jackie Acuña and Ishie Lalongisip chipped in nine markers each.

The HD Spikers, who fielded just 10 players in the game, were without the tandem of Ces Molina and Riri Meneses, who both departed the team to explore other options.

Cignal improved to 5-1 while Galeries slipped to 1-6.
