PVL: Petro Gazz overcomes early hiccups, scores reverse sweep of Chery Tiggo
Petro Gazz rose from two sets down to complete a stunning 20-25, 20-25, 25-23, 25-15, 15-7 reverse sweep of Chery Tiggo in the PVL All-Filipino Conference on Tuesday at the PhilSports Arena.
The Angels banked on their old reliables in Aiza Maizo-Pontillas, Myla Pablo, and Brooke Van Sickle en route to their fifth straight victory for a 6-1 record. The Crossovers, meanwhile, dropped to a 4-3 card.
Veteran opposite hitter Maizo-Pontillas and seasoned outside spiker Pablo led the way with 18 points apiece while Van Sickle chipped in 10 markers, including crucial points in the deciding fifth set.
A Van Sickle tip from the left wing saw Petro Gazz cruising to an 8-3 cushion before Pablo went for a drop ball that extended their lead to five, 10-5.
Chery Tiggo setter Jasmine Nabor then went for a rare attack on the opposite side, but the Angels quickly answered with a 4-0 rampage capped by a Tiammy Tiamzon attack off a perfect set by libero Jellie Tempiatura for the match point, 14-6.
Although Maizo-Pontillas committed an attack error in the next play, Petro Gazz was able to put the icing on the cake with a service error by Ara Galang.
Cza Carandang and Pauling Gaston paced Chery Tiggo with 13 and 12 points each while Nabor chimed in with 10.
