PVL: Tots Carlos shines late as Creamline repulses Nxled for sweep win

PVL: Tots Carlos of the Creamline Cool Smashers

Tots Carlos hit timely attacks late in the third set to lift Creamline to a 25-12, 25-21, 25-19 victory against the gutsy Nxled to remain unblemished in the PVL All-Filipino Conference on Tuesday at the PhilSports Arena.

The explosive opposite hitter tallied 10 points, including four of their last 10 in the crucial third set, to help the defending champions extend their streak to six this conference and improve to 6-0.

Creamline, who was just given a special citation last night during the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Awards Night, pounded on the winless Nxled in the first two sets, although the Chameleons staged a fightback in that frame.

Nxled took advantage of that energy in the third set, which the Chameleons opened with a 15-11 start after Lucille Almonte went through the blockers to give her side a four-point advantage.

Creamline slowly trimmed the gap but an attack error from Carlos allowed Nxled to take an 18-15 lead.

But the former University of the Philippines standout made up for it in the next sequence, converting a kill from the opposite side to tie things up at 18-all and fuel what would be a 10-1 closing run.

Carlos then completed a combination play before her net defense prevented May Luna's attack from going in as Alyssa Valdez got her groove and caught the line to bring Creamline to the match point, 24-18.

Luna saved one match point, but Carlos finished it off with a strong hit from the right wing.

Bernadeth Pons top-scored with 13 points together with 12 digs while Valdez finished with seven to lead the balanced scoring for the grand slam winners.

Only five players from Nxled scored, led by the seven-point outing from Jaycel Delos Reyes and the six markers each from Lycha Ebon, Luna, and Almonte as they dropped to a 0-8 card.
