PVL: Brooke Van Sickle lifts streaking Petro Gazz past gritty ZUS Coffee
Brooke Van Sickle was in explosive mode as she propelled surging Petro Gazz to a 25-20, 24-26, 28-26, 25-22 win over gutsy ZUS Coffee in the PVL All-Filipino Conference on Tuesday at the PhilSports Arena.
The Filipino-American ace spiker tallied 27 points on 25 attacks and two service aces the Angels extended their winning streak to six and solidified their hold of second spot at 7-1.
They also snapped the two-game winning streak of the resurgent Thunderbelles, who now fell to a 4-5 card.
Van Sickle was unstoppable as Petro Gazz snapped out of a 16-all deadlock by unleashing four straight points before lefty Kate Santiago rallied ZUS with back-to-back hits to come within two, 19-21.
ZUS then turned to a veteran in Jovelyn Gonzaga as the seasoned opposite hitter launched two power hits from the right side, 20-22.
But Myla Pablo made sure Van Sickle and the rest of the Angels wouldn't collapse this time like in their second set hiccup, unleashing two open attacks in a row before Van Sickle's powerful hammer over two blockers sent Petro Gazz to the match point.
Van Sickle put the punctuation with another kill as they are now just behind league-leading and defending champion Creamline in the team standings.
