Creamline survives brave third set stand of Farm Fresh, keeps streak going

PVL volleyball: Creamline Cool Smashers

Creamline fended off a late third set surge from Farm Fresh to eke out a sweep victory, 25-15, 25-19, 27-25, and extend its winning streak to nine in the PVL All-Filipino Conference on Tuesday at the PhilSports Arena.

The reigning champions remained unscathed as they improved to 9-0 while the Foxies slid to 4-6.

Farm Fresh, who have now lost back-to-back games, leaned on lefty opposite hitter Caitlin Viray to stage an uprising in the third set as the former UST standout went for an attack that tied things up at 21-all.

Creamline's setter Kyle Negrito was then whistled for a double contact violation, allowing Farm Fresh to take a one-point advantage. But Creamline displayed its clutch genes, retaking a 23-22 cushion after Alyssa Valdez and Jema Galanza converted two consecutive attacks.

A Galanza combination play sent Creamline to its first match point at 24-23 before they were called for four touches infraction that led to another deadlock.

Negrito won a joust at the net for the second match point only for Viray to tie it anew at 25-all.

Galanza, though, would put the finishing blow after unleashing a cross court kill from the opposite wing before serving an ace to finish it off.
