Petro Gazz sweeps Galeries, rolls to 8th straight victory
Petro Gazz fended off Galeries Tower in a tight third set, cruising to a 25-18, 25-18, 25-22 victory to maintain its surge in the PVL All-Filipino Conference on Saturday at the Ynares Center Antipolo.
The Angels needed to dig deep in the final set before taking home the win that allowed them to extend their winning streak to eight, improving to 9-1 in the team standings. The High Risers, meanwhile, fell to a 1-9 card.
Petro Gazz tore a 15-all deadlock by unleashing a 4-1 run capped by an off-speed attack from Brooke Van Sickle from the left wing. France Ronquillo, though, was able to trim the deficit thanks to an opposite kill that saw her Galeries trailing by just two points, 18-20.
The Angels responded with a 3-0 run of their own with Ethan Arce sending back an overpass from Jho Maraguinot, bringing Petro Gazz to a 23-18 cushion.
Maraguinot then scored two powerful attacks before Myla Pablo went wide on her attack that enabled Galeries to fuel a 4-0 run and come within one, 22-23.
Pablo made up for that earlier infraction, converting back-to-back kills that sealed the sweep victory yet again for the Angels.
Pablo top-scored with 17 points anchored on 13 attacks, three aces, and one block while Van Sickle and Aiza Maizo-Pontillas chipped in 15 and 12 markers apiece.
Maraguinot paced Galeries with 12 points together with 10 receptions while Ysa Jimenez posted seven markers in their fifth loss in a row.
