Petro Gazz makes quick work of Capital1, clinches QF spot

Petro Gazz formally clinched a quarterfinals spot after blanking lowly Capital1, 25-19, 25-23, 25-21, in the qualifying round of PVL All-Filipino Conference on Saturday at the PhilSports Arena. 

The Angels joined Creamline and Galeries as the first few teams to book a playoff spot after the Cool Smashers and the High Risers dispatched Nxled and Cignal in their qualifying round duels. 

Brooke Van Sickle punished Capital1 in the third frame, unloading back-to-back attacks before two consecutive attack errors from the Solar Spikers saw the Angels soaring to a 23-17 lead. 

But Capital1 slowly trimmed the gap with Leila Cruz and Des Clemente fueling a 3-0 rampage to force the second-seeded Angels to call for a timeout. 

That cut the momentum for Capital1 as Cruz went wide on her serve, which gave Petro Gazz the match point at 24-20. Ethan Arce then shut down two blockers to deliver the game-winning point.
