UST extends winning streak to four with win vs UP; FEU sweeps UE in UAAP women's volleyball
The University of Santo Tomas extended its winning streak to four after defeating the University of the Philippines, 25-11, 25-23, 23-25, 25-12, on Wednesday in the UAAP Season 87 women's volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Reg Jurado had 22 points anchored on 21 attacks, along with eight excellent digs, while Angge Poyos had 21 points for the Golden Tigresses as they recovered from a third set hiccup.
“Regarding sa third set, talagang ‘yung errors sobrang dami and sumabay ‘yung players namin sa pace ng play ng UP. Nung pagdating ng fourth, sabi namin hindi tayo pwedeng maging ganito, kailangan reset and regroup tayo kaya naging maganda ang resulta,” said UST assistant coach Yani Fernandez.
Kianne Olango, meanwhile, had 18 points for the Diliman-based squad, while Joan Monares had 13 points as UP dropped to 2-3.
Far Eastern University, meanwhile, survived a tough challenge from the University of the East, 25-23, 25-19, 25-20, for its second straight victory.
Gerz Petallo led the Lady Tamaraws with 12 points, while Mitzi Panangin and Chenie Tagaod chipped in 11 points apiece as the Morayta-based squad improved to 3-2.
KC Cepada and Nessa Bangayan had 14 points apiece to lead the still winless Lady Warriors.
