Chery Tiggo, Cignal beat Nxled, Capital1 in PVL play-in to boost QF bids


Chery Tiggo and Cignal boosted their respective bids for slots in the PVL All-Filipino Conference quarterfinals after defeating their opponents in the play-in tournament on Thursday at the Philsports Arena.

The Crossovers swept Nxled, 25-22, 26-24, 25-12, to get their first win in the play-in round robin.

Ara Galang and Ces Robles had 15 points apiece to lead Chery Tiggo, with the latter having seven digs and nine receptions to help the Crossovers' defense.

EJ Laure, meanwhile, had 15 points for the Chameleons.

In the other game, Cignal returned to its winning ways after falling to Galeries in a historic upset during the qualifying round.

The HD Spikers bounced back at the expense of Capital1, 25-21, 22-25, 25-17, 25-15.

Vanie Gandler led Cignal with 21 points, while Roselyn Doria-Aquino had 18 points.

Trisha Genesis and Leila Cruz, meanwhile, had 12 points apiece for the Solar Spikers.

The three teams in each of the two pools will play against each other and the team who will have the best result will advance to the quarterfinals.

The winner of Pool A, which includes Cignal, Capital1, and ZUS Coffee will face Petro Gazz in the quarters.

The top team of Pool B, which has Chery Tiggo, Nxled, and Farm Fresh, will go against Creamline in the next round.
