FEU extends win streak to three at Adamson's expense; La Salle beats UE in women's volleyball


Far Eastern University extended its winning streak to three after taking down Adamson University, 23-25, 25-15, 25-13, 25-10 on Saturday in the UAAP Season 87 women's volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Gerz Petallo led the Lady Tamaraws with 16 points from 14 attacks and two aces, on top of 15 excellent receptions, while Jean Asis and Faida Bakanke added 14 and 13 points, respectively, as FEU improved to 4-2.

“Happy naman kami sa nakitang performance ng mga players. Nagbubunga na ‘yung from heartbreaking na talo sa UP. Paunti-unti nakakabalik so naipakita na nila ‘yung FEU Lady Tamaraws talaga,” said FEU assistant coach Manolo Refugia.

The win spoiled another explosive outing from rookie Shaina Nitura who had 24 points, with the Lady Falcons slipping to 2-3.

Earlier, De La Salle University survived a second set hiccup against the University of the East, 25-12, 23-25, 25-14, 25-17.

Angel Canino had 20 points anchored on 14 attacks and three aces to lead the Lady Spikers who improved to 3-2.

Nessa Bangayan, meanwhile, had 17 points and 11 digs as UE remained winless in six games.

In men's play, FEU remained unbeaten after sweeping a tough Adamson squad, 25-23, 25-20, 31-29, while La Salle defeated UE, 26-24, 25-13, 25-23.
