La Salle sweeps Ateneo in UAAP women's volleyball; Green Spikers outlast Blue Eagles in five-setter
De La Salle University swept Ateneo de Manila University, 25-21, 25-17, 25-20, in the UAAP Season 87 women's volleyball tournament on Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Angel Canino, who was rushed to the hospital last Saturday after the match against University of Santo Tomas, had 16 points all from attacks, along with seven excellent digs, while Shevana Laput had 14 points.
"I’m doing really good and I’m better na po. Binigyan din naman ako ng go signal and nagpahinga rin talaga ako kung anong kailangan na protocol, sinunod ko lang," Canino said.
AC Miner, meanwhile, led the Blue Eagles, with 13 points, while Lyann De Guzman added 10 points.
La Salle improved to 7-3, while Ateneo slipped to 4-6.
Earlier, the Green Spikers outlasted the Blue Eagles in a five-setter, 21-25, 25-18, 21-25, 25-22, 27-25.
Noel Kampton, who is celebrating his 25th birthday, had 27 points from 23 attacks, three aces, and a block, while Vince Maglinao had 22 points as the Taft-based squad improved to 6-4.
The win spoiled Kennedy Batas' 26-point outing for the blue-and-white squad who slipped to 6-4.
