PVL: Akari nears bronze with Game 1 reverse sweep of Choco Mucho
Akari roared back from two sets down to complete a reversal over Choco Mucho, 24-26, 21-25, 25-15, 25-18, 15-11, in Game 1 of PVL All-Filipino Conference battle for third on Tuesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Chargers thus moved a win away from securing their second podium finish.
Eli Soyud continued her post-season brilliance after the veteran opposite hitter poured out 24 points built on 20 attacks, two blocks, and two aces to power their come-from-behind victory.
It was Soyud's attack from the right wing that stretched their fifth set lead to 13-10 before a Sisi Rondina attack error sent them to the match point that forced the Flying Titans to call for a timeout.
Choco Mucho then responded after the breather with Rondina soaring from the opposite side, 14-11, but Grethcel Soltones completed a combination play on the soft touch to deliver the victory.
Ivy Lacsina was also instrumental on the comeback act as she posted 20 points and nine digs while Soltones chipped in 15 markers of her own to go with 26 receptions.
The Chargers, who bagged breakthrough podium finish in the previous Reinforced Conference when they finished as runners-up to Creamline, will look to secure the bronze on Thursday.
