FEU Lady Tamaraws eliminate Ateneo from Final Four contention; NU bounces back at UE's expense

Far Eastern University eliminated Ateneo de Manila University from Final Four contention after claiming a 25-23, 22-25, 25-22, 25-13 victory in the UAAP Season 87 women's volleyball tournament on Wednesday at the Philsports Arena.

Faida Bakanke led the Lady Tamaraws with 19 points, while Gerz Petallo and Chenie Tagaod had 13 and 12 points, respectively, as FEU improved to 8-4 to solidify its hold of the third place in the standings.

"Going against Ateneo, masyadong dedicated ang Ateneo sa pagbalik nila sa Final Four tapos sa amin naman, eager din kaming mag-stay sa position na 'yun. Mahirap for us to maintain 'yung ganong klase kasi pareho kami ng goal. It’s just a matter kung sino yung may desire na makarating sa Final Four,” said FEU head coach Tina Salak.

AC Miner had 17 points, while Jihan Chuatico had 13 points as the Blue Eagles slipped to 4-8.

Earlier, National University bounced back at the expense of the University of the East, 25-8, 25-22, 25-12.

Bella Belen had 16 points to lead the Lady Bulldogs as they improved to 10-2 and returned to the win column after falling to Adamson University.

KC Cepada, Nessa Bangayan, and Riza Nogales had six points apiece as UE remained winless in 12 games.
