Shaina Nitura breaks UAAP women's volleyball single-season scoring record

Adamson University rookie Shaina Nitura broke the UAAP women's volleyball single-season record on Saturday as she dropped 37 points to lead the Lady Falcons past Far Eastern University, 14-25, 29-27, 25-22, 25-22, on Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Nitura's 37 points was built on 31 attacks, five blocks, and an ace as Adamson improved to 5-7.

The record shattered by Nitura was previously held by Alyssa Valdez who had 312 points in Season 77 as the rookie now has 314 points with still two games to go.

"If I would reflect sa napagdaanan ng team, I’m very happy at very thankful kasi sobrang laking tulong nito for our upcoming seasons. Grateful ako na kahit hindi kami makakapasok ng Final Four, pero yung learnings na makukuha namin, sobrang laking foundation nito for us. Very grateful pero hindi pa tapos,” Nitura said.

In just her rookie season, Nitura also had the most 30-point games in a single women’s volleyball season, best rookie scoring record, single-season scoring record, and single-game scoring record in the UAAP.

For FEU's side, Gerz Petallo had 18 points, while Chen Tagaod added 12 points as the Lady Tamaraws slipped to 8-5.

Despite the win, Adamson was eliminated from Final Four contention earlier after the University of Santo Tomas' 25-19, 25-16, 25-15 victory against the University of the East.

Angge Poyos had 12 points, while Reg Jurado had 10 points as UST improved to 8-4.

Nessa Bangayan, meanwhile, had six points to lead the still winless Lady Warriors.
