Alas Pilipinas advances to VTV Cup semis after sweep win vs Est Cola

Alas Pilipinas advanced to the semifinals of the VTV Cup after defeating Thailand's U21 club Est Cola in the quarterfinals, 25-17, 25-21, 25-21, on Thursday in Vietnam.

The Philippines and Thailand were tied at 14 in the third set before the former pulled away, 20-15. Thailand stopped the bleeding for its squad but Eya Laure's attack put Alas at 21. The Philippines continued to hold off Thailand and reached match point, 24-18, but the Thais salvaged three match point. After a timeout, a service error from the Thai squad sealed the victory.

Vanie Gandler had 12 points, while Brooke Van Sickle had 10 points in the victory.

The Philippines will now face Russian club Korabelka in the semifinals on Friday.

Alas Pilipinas also notched its third straight win in the tournament after winning against China's Sichuan Wuliangchun and Australia in the preliminary round.
