UAAP: NU Lady Bulldogs sweep UE, book Final Four spot
National University swept University of the East, 25-19, 25-14, 25-14, to secure a Final Four berth in the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament on Sunday at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion.
Vange Alinsug delivered 11 points and 11 receptions, while Sam Cantada and Arah Panique also chipped in 11 points each as the Lady Bulldogs improved to 9-3, moving into solo second place.
“Siyempre, we’re very grateful [and] thankful na we are here. Pinaghihirapan talaga namin lahat ng games. Hindi talaga sobrang dali ng lahat. Siyempre, ‘yung hard work always pays off. Hopefully, it does not end just in the top four; hopefully, we get to be up there. We want that twice-to-beat advantage, and we want to play in the championship games,” said NU head coach Regine Diego.
Van Bangayan added seven points, while Samantha Nicole Taylan contributed six as UE remained winless.
Earlier in the day, the NU men’s team also swept UE, 25-16, 25-21, 25-17.
Leo Ordiales led the Bulldogs with 12 points, while Jade Disquitado and Obed Mukaba added 11 and 10 points, respectively, as NU improved to 10-2 and moved closer to securing a twice-to-beat incentive.
Roy Gabriel Piojo tallied 15 points, along with six receptions and two digs, as UE dropped to 2-10.
